Five-year-old writes letter to Pizza Express asking them to ban plastic straws
Pizza Express is set to ban plastic straws from all of its restaurants as a result of a letter written by a five-year-old girl calling them out on the impact it has on animals.
Ava James, whose mum hails from Saltash and her grandmother still lives there, begged the restaurant chain to stop giving them to customers, telling them it will make animals ๏ฟฝsick๏ฟฝ.
The youngster๏ฟฝs mum Andrea James said on Facebook: ๏ฟฝTo say I’m a proud parent right now is an understatement. I encouraged her to write the letter after she saw a turtle with a straw stuck in its nostril that came up on my Facebook feed.
๏ฟฝAva asked how we could help it. The outcome, is the best result we could have wished for and we are so pleased that Pizza Express, firstly acknowledged the initial letter and then contacted us last week to share the news that we are now all reading.๏ฟฝ
She told Cornwall Live: “It’s been a crazy few days. We are immensely proud of Ava.
