In Wascana Marsh, a two-year research project is being conducted in order to know more about the Western Painted Turtle. We hope to learn more about its population size but also its habitat at different time of the year. These turtles are caught and a radio transmitter is then attached to its shell. In addition to better understand this species’ ecology, this project is also intended to help with conservation.

Some sea turtles loves seagrass. The seagrass called “Thalassia testudinum” is commonly known as “turtle grass” because green sea turtles almost exclusively feed on it.
