Endangered green sea turtle found dead in Cebu town
It’s the time of year where more and more frequently, as turtles and tortoises become more active for mating season, can succumb to injuries sustained from motorised vehicles such as boats and cars. These unfortunate incidents occur globally and have the potential to affect any and all turtles/tortoises in close proximity to humans.
This story comes from Leyte in the Philippines, where a female green turtle unfortunately died after sustaining serious wounds from a motorboat propeller. The turtle was discovered washed up on a beach by John Ralph Adolana, who reported the incident to SMARTSeas project assistant Kristina Luz Tapales. Tapales stated that this was not the first incident like this and that it will likely not be the last.
It’s a stark reminder that we do share this planet with some beautiful and fragile animals, and that care must be taken when we make use of the same environments in which these animals live.
