Sea Turtle Inc. Interns Experience Conservation At Its Best In The Rio Grande Valley

South Padre Island is home to Sea Turtle Inc., which is a rescue facility dedicated to the education, rehabilitation, and conservation of sea turtles from around the world. With the recent unveiling of a brand new center expansion, this world-class organization is heading the way for the preservation of these endangered animals which inhabit our oceans. For the past eight years, students from around the world have been provided with the incredible opportunity to experience conservation at it’s fullest at Sea Turtle Inc. The organization offers multiple internships which begin in the month of March. In addition to presenting educational topics to visitors in the brand new amphitheater, the students also are heavily involved with data collection of the nests that are recorded along the Padre Island seashore, and of course, they assist in the care and rehabilitation of the many turtles that call Sea Turtle Inc. their temporary and in some cases permanent home. Each intern is assigned a specific focus project, such as nest monitoring and studying the effects of sound on sea turtle nests. Although the students are free to be creative with their individual research projects, the ultimate goal is to provide an advantageous result for the organization. As each students completes this life-changing internship with Sea Turtle Inc., they leave with a greater appreciation for our marine ecosystems and are prepared to dive into an influential conservation career.
