Meet Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center’s new resident
The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center will soon have a new resident sea turtle.
Sweet Pea, a female juvenile green sea turtle, is scheduled to arrive at the center Thursday morning.
The center will be closed Thursday through Monday to allow Sweet Pea time to acclimate to the pool and to her new role as the center’s ambassador. The center is expected to re-open Tuesday.
Sweet Pea replaces Gigi, a blind Loggerhead who became the center’s first sea turtle not long after the facility opened in August 2016. Gigi died in July.
“Oh, my goodness, yes, we are excited,” said Cathy Holmes, the center’s animal care supervisor. “Sweet Pea, she is stinking cute. She’s adorable.”
The Navarre Beach center worked with Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park in Fort Walton Beach to relocate Sweet Pea.
