High Priority Given To Marine Protected Areas As Part Of Action Plan To Conserve Sea Turtles

Those who go against the rules of MPA’s (Marine Protected Areas) in Vietnam may face detainment as of 2016. Based off of the MTCAP (Marine Turtle Conservation Action Plan), this new MPA power allows authorities to impose fines and lawsuits on violators of these laws. The MTCAP plans to develop a sea turtle database as well as raise public awareness about these declining animals. They are also working with fishermen to modify fishing equipment in order to prevent accidental capture and entanglement. Since the well-being of the ecosystem is largely determined by the sea turtle population, it is critical that these measures be enforced to protect the sea turtles that inhabit our oceans.
