The Ganges rivers has a new cleaning crew: Lissemys punctata, Chitra indica and Geoclemys hamiltoniiIndeed, the non-vegetarian turtle play a crucial role in cleaning the Ganges river by eating organic wastes and animal carcasses that are dumped into the river. On the other hand, Chitra indica and Geoclemys hamiltonii take care of the vegetarian wastes by eating flowers and leaves dumped into the river. 500 Lissemys punctata bred and raised by the Tortoise Rehabilitation Centre will be released in the river once they cone of age to help cleaning the Ganges even more.
