Turtles smuggled in India Were To Be Shipped To South East Asia
“The association of turtles in Feng Shui in countries like Malaysia, Thailand and China, besides Vastu Shastra in India, is turning the illegal trade of turtles into a large wildlife smuggling racket in the country”. Recently, 50 endangered freshwater turtles were saved from a smuggler of Etawah. The investigation revealed that the turtles were to be shipped to Kolkata and then to countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and China where the animal is considered to be auspicious.

The wood turtle, Glyptemys insculpta exists in a broad range extending from Nova Scotia in the north (and east) to Minnesota in the west and Virginia in the south. In the past, it was forced south by encroaching glaciers: skeletal remains have been found as far south as Georgia.
