Virgin Islands National Park Sea Turtle Monitoring Program
Not having monitored turtles since 2009 they now have a program up and running again. It is proving a challenging task but we hope it’s worth it. They have four species of sea turtle visiting; Eretmochelys imbricata, Chelonia mydas and occasionally the Dermochelys coriacea and Caretta caretta.
Our biggest issues were: adequate response times to nest reports from volunteers, monitoring remote beaches, and maintaining sufficient protection from mongoose destroying nests.
