Explore the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project
You might be surprised if you happen to stay at the Burj Al Arab hotel for a night. What you may not realize is that you will be sharing the hotel with some endangered sea turtles; in fact, the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP) operates from the hotel, and have released more than 100 sea turtles back into their native habitat. After being rehabilitated in the hotel aquarium, they are transfered to special pools in Jumeirah Mina A’Salam. After spending time there, they are then moved to another hotel in construction, called Jumeirah Al Naseem. These massive enclosures are approximately five times the size of the orginal ones at Mina A’Salam. The turtles that are rescued by the DTRP arrive with a variety of issues and conditions, including one turtle that had to be stitched back together with steel wire. The majority of these turtles are found by beach-goers, which are then rescued and rehabilitated in complete luxury. Watch the video to learn more about this incredible operation.
