Artificial Lighting Disturbs Hatchling Sea Turtles in the Water

We knew that artificial lighting disturbed hatchling sea turtles on the beach but a new study shows that it also disturbs them after they enter the water. This study was not possible before because of the lack of tiny tracking devices. Today it is possible to attach such devices to hatchlings. As a consequence, it is possible to see what it the effect of artificial lighting after the baby sea turtles entered the water.

Coahuilan box turtle (Terrapene coahuila) Mating takes place in shallow water from September to June, and eggs are laid from May to September. The eggs are laid in small clutches, typically consisting of just 2-3 eggs per clutch.
