A Wood Turtle Released Back To Its Habitat
The wood turtle was found in the backyard in Moncton, Canada and was then placed to the Atlantic Wildlife Institute where it spend a few weeks before being released. Being kept as a pet, the institute was afraid the turtle might have picked up harmful bacteria. After making sure that the turtle was healthy, the next task was to find a place where to release it. The institute had to guess to find a good location and hope that this location was the turtle might have been coming from.

The wood turtle, Glyptemys insculpta, is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List with egg and hatchling mortality exceeding 80 percent in some areas. One of its biggest threat is actually humans. This species has suffered from a huge decline as a result of human interference and collection for the pet trade.
