Tortoise injured in Amazon fires given 3D printed replacement shell
I’m sure everyone by now has heard of the devastating forest fires wreaking havoc on the Amazon. It’s not just the forests that suffer, but the millions of animals which call the Amazon home, including tortoises.
A story has emerged of a tortoise, named Freddy, who unfortunately fell victim to the forest fires in the Amazon and was badly burnt. Freddy lost his entire carapace (shell).
But luckily, a dedicated group of veterinarians, a designer and a dental surgeon all used their expertise to take on the challenge of rebuilding Freddy’s shell using state-of-the-art 3D printing technology.
