A woman, Yaqun Lu, was apprehended on Saturday by police after she was found “stomping” and “jabbing” a protected sea turtle nest with a wooden stake typically used to border and protect the nest.
The incident which led to Lu’s arrest occurred on Miami Beach at around 8:15am. The nest was clearly protected with a double perimeter of wooden stakes and yellow tape, as well as a sign which says, “Do Not Disturb Sea Turtle Nest”.
Lu faces a felony charge of ‘sale/molestation/harassment’ for disturbing the protected nest. Miami Beach Police Department stated “Thankfully, it appears the eggs were not damaged”.
