George Heinrich of The Big Turtle Year to discuss findings at Trout Lake Nature Center, FL
The hunt ended Dec. 28, 2017, with the discovery of the Florida chicken turtle at Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve in Collier County.
“In the end, only two species were not found: the Apalachicola alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys apalachicolae) and yellow mud turtle (Kinosternon flavescens),” Heinrich wrote in a blog post in January 2018 about the experience. “We tried for them in Georgia and Texas respectively, but it was not to be.”
Heinrich’s appearance at Trout Lake, 520 E. County Road 44, is set for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The program is free but donations are welcome.
