Wildlife Reserve To Be Utilized As Vital Turtle Conservation Program Headquarters
In the center of Uttar Pradesh, India, lies a small city known as Pilibhit, and unbeknownst to many, is also home of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve. This wildlife sanctuary is also a gem of an ecosystem, featuring a massive plethora of flora and fauna, in addition to the variety of aquatic habitats which stem in and around the unique location. These wetlands are vital for the survival of a variety of species, including the numerous turtle species which are native to the area; however, due to the reduction in size of the marshes, the turtle population has diminished significantly, thus creating a dangerous situation regarding the long term viability of these already endangered species. This is where the Turtle Survival Alliance comes into play with the initial plans for a conservation project around and within the tiger reserve. This will also include a project headquarters which will implement a public education and awareness initiative to inform and involve citizens in the preservation of their country’s wildlife. Supervised by trained researchers and scientists from the TSA, the project will be completely controlled by the the TSA after three years. Permission remains to be granted from the forest reserve but TSA India is optimistic regarding the success of the project and hopes that this will result in a major advancement towards conserving the endangered chelonian population in Pilibhit’s Tiger Reserve, in addition to the habitat that is so necessary for their survival.
