Young Poacher Detained For Illegal Possession Of Threatened Geochelone Elegans
Even those you might not expect can be found participating in the illegal wildlife trade. At the young age of merely twenty-two years, a suspect was arrested after being discovered in the possession of twelve Geochelone elegans, a threatened species in the country of India and protected by law. It turns out that the individual in question, Sumit Garg, is familiar with the animal marketing business as he recently dropped out of school to focus on selling canines. Principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Pawan Kumar states that this man is no stranger to the Indian Wildlife Act despite the fact that he insists the animals were obtained legally; nevertheless, Garg has already been caught with illegal turtles in the past and authorities are highly suspicious of his sketchy activities. Based on the fact that these tortoises fetch a high price at the markets, they are notoriously tempting targets for wildlife traffickers just like this one, and officials continue to labor endlessly in a valiant effort to curb this practice which threatens to wipe out the wild population of this beautiful chelonian from their native homeland.
