A Greek School Provides A Priceless Opportunity For Students To Gain Experience In Conservation Work
Creativity, Action, or Service- that is the goal of Worth School’s CAS project within the IB diploma program, with many students taking advantage of this incredible opportunity to give back to the community. Dubbed the “WAQUA Ltd.” initiative, a pair of industrious attendees of the school, Timeo and Felix, put all three of these goals into a creative project to contribute to sea turtle conservation as well as benefiting their local community as a whole. Their plan consisted of designing a scheduled water drop-off service for the community of residents at their school. Little did they know what lengths this would take them; unbelievably, the project took off and expanded to multiple area schools as well as a brand new staff member addition. All of these efforts were accumulated specifically for ARCHELON, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece which is based in Zakynthos. This incredible non-profit group is a little-known but highly influential sea turtle conservation organization dedicated to the study and data collection of Grecian sea turtles. WAQUA Ltd. raised a large sum of money for this organization through recycling encouraged by their project. Generated by the collection of bottle caps, the funds were collected and later presented to ARCHELON in order to support their important work in Greece. As these students continue to implement their project in ways yet to be discovered, they are furthering wildlife conservation while at the same time gaining invaluable knowledge and experience through protecting their ecosystem.
