Seychelles Volunteers Hard At Work To Make Preparations For Upcoming Nesting Season
The Marine Conservation Society in the Seychelles is heavily focused on preserving the hundreds of sea turtles which nests on their shores each and every year. Supported heavily by dedicated volunteers, their program has been incredibly influential in boosting the populations of these animals, and staff work nonstop in their efforts for these marine reptiles. Kitty Daniels is just one of the passionate individuals that is volunteering her valuable time to assist in the worthwhile efforts of the Marine Conservation Society, taking time away from her busy school schedule to contribute to sea turtle conservation. Beginning at the Banyan Tree Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Centre, she is focusing her skills on a detailed data collection project in order to keep tabs on a variety of sea turtle nests as well as monitoring the movements of the adult specimens. She is additionally studying the sand movement tendencies on the beach and their effects on the nesting rates of the turtles. Daniels has even had the beneficial opportunity to speak to visitors about their conservation efforts on the islands. As she recounts her once-in-a-lifetime experience, she is extremely expectant and excited for the upcoming busy nesting season and hopes to gain a wealth of knowledge regarding sea turtle conservation and the corresponding field work.
