Critical Care Patients At Risk As Staff Race To Battle Hurricane Florence
As Hurricane Florence roars over the East Coast, a few dedicated individuals are hanging tight at the South Carolina Aquarium in a unified effort to protect each and every one of their residents from the natural disaster that is threatening their safety. With the generous assistance of multiple volunteers, aquarium staff have been hard at work rearranging enclosures and transferring animals to ensure the health of all of their patients. The intensive care unit for the sea turtles, located on the lowest floor of the facility, is a situation of great concern due to potential flooding and loss of power, so staff have been racing to move all the animals from that unit into temporary accommodation on the next floor; in addition, the use of generators have been implemented to ensure power outages will not affect the array of systems that provide support for their aquatic residents. A second team already stands ready to assist in the post-storm cleanup and tasks, and to repair any damage that the storm may cause to the building; however, the current disaster team remains in suspense, as Hurricane Florence threatens over the horizon.
