Five Months Of Dedication Proves Worthwhile As Rehabilitated Sea Turtle Is Released To Celebrate World Turtle Day
If not for the Loggerhead Marine Center, Teddy the sea turtle might not have had a chance at survival, but thanks to the skill of committed staff, he will be well on his way to a healthy and happy life later today. A starving and anemic individual, this turtle was rescued in January from the St. Lucie power plant intake canal. Five months meant continuous intensive care for the unfortunate individual, including fluids, medications, supplements, and a specialized diet to get Teddy back on track. He gained 12 pounds during his treatment period and as a result of his encouraging progress was pronounced ready to return to his ocean home. As the release happens to fall on World Turtle Day, which is today, the Loggerhead Marine Center plans to hold a special event to celebrate Teddy’s success, which will include a presentation prior to the public release. As people around the world celebrate chelonians today, this release makes it all the more a special day as one more sea turtle is spared from an unfortunate fate.
