High School Teacher Embarks On Trip To Research Effects Of Littering On Sea Turtle Populations
At a small high school located in Oakmont, Massachusetts, a science teacher prepares to make one of the most important trips of her life. Alana Archangelo is going to Magdalena Bay on a research expedition along with twelve other partners in order to study the sea turtles and the detrimental effects of ocean trash of the populations of these endangered reptiles. Fisherman’s nets are a huge threat to the turtles and discovering deceased animals is unfortunately much too common. The goal of the research team is to educate the fishermen on proper practices to prevent these occurrences, and the group hopes to be able to share what they learn with their students back at home. Archangelo is a marine biologist as well as a teacher and she runs the high school’s Oakmont Environmental Association; in addition, she has traveled around the world to study endangered wildlife. As she contemplates her upcoming travels, she looks forward to doing her part to rescue these amazing creatures which are on their way to extinction.
