New Zealand Backyard Transformed Into A Turtle Paradise
Many pet turtles have made their way into homes all over the world, but not many have had such a life-changing affect on one person’s life as this turtle did to Sheryl Wishnowsky, a resident of Feilding, New Zealand. What started as a tank in the living room blossomed into the Turtle Rescue Manawatu, which now houses 39 rescued turtles in an elaborate series of outdoor ponds, specially designed for their pampered residents. Wishnowsky founded the non-profit rescue after she realized the pressing need for homes for abandoned turtles, and now she partners with a local veterinary hospital to ensure the health of her animals. She welcomes visitors as well, and uses it as an opportunity to educate the public on the proper care of turtles, which have such a long lifespan and require such dedication.
