New Turtle Corridor Creates Safe Passage For Nesting Sea Turtles
Marine Protected Areas (MPA’s) have been vital to the survival of sea turtles around the world, but unfortunately even these measures are not sufficient to sustain the populations of these endangered creatures and prevent their rapid decline. As a result, conservationists have implemented a new plan to ensure the safe migration and nesting of these species as well as other marine wildlife. The Marine Turtle Protected Area Network (MTPAN) heads this new endeavor. The new construction is known as the “turtle corridor”, and it connects several MPA’s in the Philippines. The goal of this new project is to eventually partner with Malaysia and Indonesia to create additional safe passages for the sea turtles, since more than one safe haven is essential for the well-being and survival of these animals. The partnership between the three countries will be essential to the long-term success of this conservation project, and this will aid in preserving the ecosystems that are a major aspect of each location.
