Texas to propose ending unlimited commercial trapping of its wild turtles
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has agreed to propose a ban on commercial turtle harvesting of its native wild species after recent studies confirmed that its current populations were not sustainable. If the ban passes, Texas will join other states such as Florida, Iowa, Missouri, and Alabama in protecting its reptile residents from overcollection. The Center for Biological Diversity has petitioned for a ban on unlimited commercial trapping in Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
