Legendary Turtle Master’s Deteriorating Health Prompts Concern Over Future Of Renowned Chelonian Collection
The Chelonian Research Institute- The name turns the heads and captures the attention of any chelonian enthusiast. This legendary place is the dream destination for many people from around the world. Created by Dr. Peter Pritchard, this impressive collection of both living and preserved chelonians tells the story of his lifetime of impressive scientific work, traveling worldwide to obtain each and every specimen in his incredibly diverse museum. Unfortunately, Pritchard’s health is causing doubts of the future of this prestigious collection. Alzheimer’s disease has tragically rendered the prodigy unable to walk or speak, robbing him of the ability to devote his time to the institute. He can no longer give tours and spend limitless time conversing with awestruck visitors. Without his presence, the personal aspect of the institute is no longer present, and the board members are putting deep thought into the fate of the result of his lifetime of hard work. Ideally, the institute will remain in Florida and remained curated to preserve such a valuable resource. Mike Dennis, one of the board members, says that board meetings are continuing to be held to determine the best solution to this grave issue; however, whatever the outcome, of utmost importance is ensuring the preservation of the Chelonian Research Institute.
