University Student Fulfills Life-long Passion With The Bermuda Turtle Project
Rescuing a tangled sea turtle was only part of the series of events that would lead Josh Stephens to a career with these amazing animals. After being invited multiple times to join the Bermuda Turtle Project by Jennifer Gray, director of the BTP, he finally accepted while simultaneously pursuing a degree at Plymouth University in Britain. Stephens grew up in Bermuda and has spent the more recent years reaching out to biologists and getting involved in conservation work. With a life-long passion for marine biology, he worked for Blue Water Divers, which is when he was able to rescue his first sea turtle. The turtle was transported to be rehabilitated at the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo, soon after which Stephens began his work with the BTP. He now is part of a project to tag and track sea turtles to collect data which will be used for valuable research. This is a dream come true for Stephens, who considers the BTP an incredible opportunity.
