Student-Teacher Pair Granted Incredible Opportunity To Research Sea Turtles Abroad
How many high-schoolers can say they have been to the Bahamas to study sea turtles? Thanks to the Chevron JASON Learning program, eleven teams composed of one student and a teacher were presented with the opportunity to travel to the Cape Eleuthera Institute on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas for a week in order to learn about ecology and sea turtle biology. They participated in a research project which included tracking sea turtles as well as snorkeling to study the animals in their natural habitat. The mission of the JASON learning program is to assist the public in determining an attainable means of providing education in various fields, including science and engineering. The Cape Eleuthera Institute is a wonderful example of the utilization of our natural resources in a sustainable manner, and the mission is to inspire communities to increase awareness of our fragile ecosystems.
