Over 5,000 Lepidochelys olivacea hatchlings released into sea in Krishna

We have successfully recorded and documented the arrival of as many as 772 turtles and collected 88,544 eggs along the coastline, including the Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary area, till March 12. This season has witnessed the arrival of the turtles in record number since 2009,” Avanigadda Forest Range Officer V. Bhavani told The Hindu .

Male Lepidochelys olivacea off of the Bengal Bay in India concentrate in aggregations at sea during mating; these areas may hold 26 mating pairs per square kilometer.
