Sea Turtle is an Unfortunate Victim of an Abuse Case
After being in rehabilitation for a year at the Agriculture Ministry of the Marine Rescue Unit facilities at Jiyyeh port, Lucky the sea turtle was transported to Hammoud University Hospital in Sidon for continued medical treatment. Last year he was the unfortunate victim of a senseless beating after becoming stranded on a Lebanon beach. He was not responding to rehabilitation efforts as hoped, and an unusual behavioral change prompted the Marine Unit to seek further assistance. X-rays were performed and the results uncovered a lack of oxygen which was causing shortness of breath in the turtle. The good news is that his organ function is largely normal, except for serious brain damage which will require extensive rehabilitation techniques to retrain the patient to stay submerged and consume food without assistance. Experts have been consulted and the turtle will be closely monitored to insure safe and effective treatment protocol and success.
