Prince Harry visits the turtle sanctuary at St Vincent and the Grenadines
The prince visited the turtle conservation project at Colonarie beach on St Vincent and the Grenadines. Even since turtles have become endangered in the Caribbean, nations have allowed coastal communities to carry on hunting turtles for one month each year when they are most numerous. But from January that will no longer be the case in St Vincent and the Grenadines, a group of islands that includes Mustique, the favourite haunt of royals and the Middleton family. Sea turtle eggshell are composed of two layers, an outer inorganic layer and an inner organic membrane composed of multiple layers of fibres. The fibrous membrane forms a barriers and increases diffusion distance slowing down water movement. It also helps maintain egg shape, support egg contents and protect the embryo from mechanical injury.
