Kane County Department of Transportation to protect Emys blandingii

Quote: The Longmeadow Parkway Bridge Corridor construction crews will need to learn what a Blanding’s turtle looks like, how to protect it and what to do if one slips into the construction zone, according to officials. If a turtle is found, “staff is not supposed to move it,” said Steve Coffinbarger, assistant director of the Kane County Department of Transportation. “We are supposed to contact IDNR (Illinois Department of Natural Resources) and they come and protect the turtle and do what is necessary to keep it safe.”
