Tortoise Undergoes Amamzing Unexpected Surgery
Could a tortoise possibly require a hysterectomy? Well that’s what one tortoise in the UK needed after a build-up of eggs was discovered in her uterus. Apparently this female was mistaken to be a male, until she was taken to Vets for Pets in Maldon for a regular examination after arriving at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary. It is unknown how long these eggs had been accumlating inside the tortoise, but it was certain that they would have eventually proved fatal. The surgery performed to save her life entailed using a specialized saw to cut a hole in her plastron, whereupon the vet was able to extricate the large number of eggs from her uterus. This sixty year old tortoise is expected to make a full recovery and live a healthy remainder of her life, Check out the link for some interesting photos!
