Education vital to turtle conservation efforts
MANY are still unaware of the importance of sea turtle conservation in Brunei said Liaw Lin Ji, the president of BruWILD (Biodiversity and Natural History Society). “If we want (to raise awareness) on why we need to step up conservation efforts, we have to make people understand what it is that they are conserving,” Lin Ji said during a BruWILD Saving Our Turtles Project outreach programme session at Meragang Marine Biodiversity Centre (MBC) yesterday. Lin Ji added that people are unlikely to help conserve something they lack knowledge in.

The Geoemydidae (formerly known as Bataguridae) are one of the largest and most diverse families[4] in the order Testudines (turtles), with about 70 species. The family includes the Eurasian pond and river turtles and Neotropical wood turtles.
