The painted turtle (Chrysemys pictai) blend together at range boundaries but they are distinct and currently divided into the eastern painted turtle (C. p. picta); midland painted turtle (C. p. marginata); southern painted turtle (C. p. dorsalis) and the western painted turtle (C. p. bellii).
