All good news today

While it isn’t a busy news day, all we have today is good news. The Brevard Zoo is working hard to protect the native DBT populations and Toronto Zoo hatched a threatened Blanding’s Turtle. In sea turtles, Little Cayman Island (human population under 100) set a record for nests, the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is having success with Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles, and a William & Mary student won an award for her thesis.

Brevard Zoo works to protect the Florida East Coast Diamondback Terrapin.

Little Caymen has set a new record for sea turtle nests recorded. So far, this year’s total is at 156.

The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies is also working to save Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles.

While every sea turtle species has suffered decline from their desirable meat, fat, and eggs, the Hawksbill has also been hunted for their beautiful carapace, which is used to make “tortoise shell” or “bekko” products.
