Tourists In Costa Rica Prevent Sea Turtle From Nesting
Massive turtle arrivals known as arribadas were disturbed by heavy tourism. It is pretty unusual to see so many tourists on the beach on this time of the year but because of the lack of rainfall this year, tourists went out and “assisted” some arribadas. Unfortunately, many of them just stood in the way of turtles. Park rangers and police officers were quickly outnumbered and could not control the situation. Refuge administrator Carlos Hernández said that although visitors may only enter the beach with a licensed tour guide, many entered the refuge via unauthorized access points from nearby locations.
