Tennessee Aquarium Welcomes Five New Sacalia bealei

The Tennessee Aquarium has successfully hatched the endangered Beal’s-eyed Turtles, Sacalia bealei. The aquarium had their first hatchling in 2007, it was the first of its species known to hatch in a North American zoo or aquarium. The aquarium had other hatchlings in 2008, 2013 and 2014. This species suffered from a rapid decline over the past 15 years. It is listed as Endangered today but expert would like to update the status to Critically Endangered. Therefore, even 5 new babies added to the global population is a big step to this species survival.
