More than 600 sea turtles released on Monday
More than 600 turtles were released during a single release on Monday, a joint effort between the Coast Guard and Gumbo-Limbo Nature Center. The release included members of 4 different sea turtle species. Also on Monday, the National aquarium in Baltimore released 3 Kemp’s Ridley Sea turtles into the Atlantic from a point in Ocean City, MD.

Because of their varied habitat usage, Blanding’s turtle is considered to be an “umbrella species”, meaning they are a representative animal for the habitats. If we protect this species and their habitats, we are ultimately protecting dozens of other species that share their homes with Emydoidea blandingii.
