Numerous Geoclemmys Hamiltonii Being Smuggled In India
The black pond turtle, Geoclemmys hamiltonii is being massively smuggled in India. On May 14th 2014, around 158 turtles were rescued from poachers. Over the past three months, more than 335 Geoclemmys hamiltonii have been seized at the Mumbai Airport, according to the author “it seems the trade appears to be controlled by a well-organized gang with the help of local poachers”. There is a growing demand for these beautiful creatures in India which leads to an increasing number of smuggling in the country.
