A WWI tortoise veteran

They say tortoises live a long time and a tortoise collected during WWI which is now living in New Zealand definitely demonstrates this. Meanwhile, 100 volunteers gather at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for there sole meeting of the year to discuss the coming years sea turtle duties. The West Sumatra administration is aiming to eradicate the trade of endangered turtle eggs in the province by 2020 which is super news.

The spur-thighed tortoise or Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), not to be confused with the African spurred tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata), also called the sulcata tortoise, is one of five species of Mediterranean tortoise (genus Testudo, family Testudinidae). The other four species are the Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni), Russian tortoise (Testudo horsfieldii), Egyptian tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni), and marginated tortoise (Testudo marginata).
