Pelodiscus sinensis found on Quincy beach
Two Pelodiscus sinensis, Chinese softshell turtle, have been found on a beach in Quincy alarming New England Aquariums marine rescue team, in the Ecology section. A snapper and a loggerhead have been given a helping hand, Maui Ocean Center welcomed six new green sea turtle hatchlings, a loggerhead is released, people cleaning up beach trash and more, all in the Conservation section. Traders arrested and tortoises stolen, in the Crime & Punishment section. A couple of sulcata tortoises that went missing earlier this week have been reunited with there owners, see the Lost & Found section.

The Chinese softshell turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis). They can reach a carapace length of 1 ft (0.30 m). It has webbed feet for swimming. They are called “softshell” because their carapace lacks horny scutes (scales). The carapace is leathery and pliable, particularly at the sides.
