The Sea Turtle License Plate
For the past twenty years the sea turtle license plate has provided a regular income for Florida’s Marine Turtle Protection Program. When director David Godfrey first started at the Sea Turtle Conservancy, he realized a regular income was required to keep Florida’s Marine Turtle Protection Program running. This was by no means a small feat of achievement, requiring many years of hard work and large donations to make it happen. This is the story of that hard work. These license plates now fund the Sea Turtle Grants Program, as well.

Did You Know…
The blood flow to a Leatherback sea turtle’s flippers can cool its body temperature significantly. To counter this, it arranges its flippers blood vessels in a counter-current exchange system to limit the effect. Gulls have the same system in their legs allowing them to stand on ice.
